Quebec Sintons

An outline descendant chart (of dna candidates only) has been added to the Patriarchs page for the family of Robert & Jane (WIGHT) SINTON of Quebec.
To explore relationships between SINTON lines, DNA candidates are still required for:
- James and Ann SINTON of Lowick, Northumberland
- John and Janet (SCOTT) SYNTON of Duns
- James & Isabella (FLEMING) SINTON of Southdean
- William & Isabella (BLACK) SINTON of Jedburgh and Southdean

So, if you are a direct male line SINTON from any of these, or other lines not documented  here, simply follow the links to join the project.

Jedburgh lineage

I'd not been in a hurry to publish the latest set of results as FT DNA matches was saying, "no match".
Given the paper trail showed a match to Lineage 1a, the Jedburgh SINTONs of William & Isabella (SCOTT) this was a disappointment.
However, the next panel arrived, so I set to updating the database and web pages, creating a new "lineage" in the R1b1b2 haplogroup - and then realised that he was an exact match to just the line he was supposed to be.
FT DNA have been asked why the "no match" results, and LRF (S-6) has been included in Lineage 1a, as he should be.
Summary results, and supplementary pages updated to include him in his rightful place on the SINTON tree.

31st: FORDs?

Possibly we're all FORDs!
A new member popped out of the woodwork today.
At this stage nothing is known about his ancestry, other than his great grandfather Philip H FORD was from Arkansas born Scotland, and that he is GD3 to Peter (S-1) at 67 markers, which distance is made up from two mutations on one marker (CDYb), and the other as he is on modal for Lineage 1 at marker 449.
99% chance of a shared ancestor within 16 generations!

Both the summary result and the supplementary pages result grids have been updated, the former belatedly also including Theo (S-7)'s results as a catchup.

Still a few hours left for the discount promotion if you are a direct male line SINTON interested in seeing if you match anyone (see previous post)

11th: A pattern emerges

With the full Y-DNA37 results now in for our latest recruit - Theo (S-7) we can see that the Irish contingent can be distinguished from their matching Southdean lineages by 576=20 and CDYb=39, as opposed to the modal values of 19 and 40 respectively.

As shown on Theo's page, our paper trails do appear to be beating the odds when compared against the theoretical Time to Most Recent Common Ancestor (TMRCA) percentages given by Family Tree DNA's scientific results without the paper trails.

The relevant supplementary pages have been updated (and a "like on facebook" button added to the footers - be the first!).

If you are direct male line SINTON and are thinking of joining in this voyage of discovery, now would be a good time.

21st: Good match at 67 markers

Results are in for our second test at 67 markers, with nary a discrepancy at all between markers 38 and 67 (unlike another project where many of the interesting variations between a lineage occur in those marker panels).

Supplementary pages have been updated to reflect the newest results, which show there is indeed an excellent match between Stephen (S-3) and Peter (S-1)

14th: Upgrade promotion

FamilyTree DNA are having an upgrade promotion for a week, so we will be taking advantage of this to upgrade S-1 to 67 markers.
Should any other participants be eligible and wish to avail themselves of the offer, follow the link in the email you will be sent by Family Tree DNA (I don't yet know how much of a discount, but the promo I received said an average of 25%, and the normal 37 to 67 upgrade is $99 US).
Note the instructions in the flier:
To order this special offer log into your personal page and click on the special offers link on the left hand navigation bar.

Looking forward to seeing what the additional markers tell us about how close the matched trees are.
Have you checked out the new DNA Projects Portal Supplementary pages?

3rd: New results posted - to 67 markers

The first of our results out to 67 markers have been received, and posted on the results page.

When there's enough money in the kitty, either S-1 or S-2 will also be upgraded to 67 markers to see what that may add to how closely related the respective families are.

Should any SINTON researchers out there wish to help fund this, contributions are very welcome.
The contributions link on most SINTON related supplementary pages at the DNA Projects Portal, and at the Family Tree DNA SINTON home page take you to a secure link whereby money can be donated via a secure link. Such money is held in our Project coffers until it is assigned to a kit.
