With those two nailed as on the same branch, how about some descendants of the other lines also upgrading to BigY, eg the Jedburgh branch of William and Isabella (SCOTT) SINTON, or James married Barbary OLIVER?
How good were we at piecing together the tree to connect at the above James of Abbotrule?
Subsidy available AND sale now on until the end of the month.

James' branch on the yDNA tree of mankind has moved around a bit and he is now positioned under R-DF27 down at R-BY61543.
To get a quick view of the "ancestors" of any branch on the DNASurnames site, click on the little pedigree symbol
It's just that most of the recent activity has gone on autosomal dna investigations - which aren't published on the project pages.
Should some suitable candidates pop up as new Y-DNA candidates to represent their particular lines, they would be most welcome.
See the Wanted! page - which still applies.

Have you had a success linking up family using autosomal DNA?
If you belong to the SINTON project, why not post your success on the activity feed for the project?

And keep an eye on the chromosome map on my personal SINTON pages LornaHenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05199921559356749656noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642956184589928591.post-2834959449616703732013-08-26T15:49:00.001+12:002013-08-26T15:49:49.619+12:00SINTONs of Dalston, Cumberland (ENG)
A Y-DNA oriented outline pedigree for the family of Joseph & Mary (HEAD) SINTON of Dalston, Cumberland, England has been added to the Patriarchs page of the SINTON Surname DNA pages on the WorldFamilies Network.
One of the lines shown emigrated to New Zealand in 1880, the other moved to Newcastle and Durham, England.
If anyone can claim direct male line descent from Joseph, please do consider joining the SINTON Surname DNA project (preferably a Y-DNA37 test) so that we can explore any potential relationships with other SINTON branches.
If you are a descendant, but not a direct male line, never fear, try FamilyFinder instead and who knows what we might all learn.
Results not yet complete, but the result grid has been widened in anticipation.
Took the opportunity to tidy up a few loose ends in the process, such as:

checking & updating the Genetic Distances between project members given FamilyTree DNA have improved their matching routines

updating the predicted and confirmed haplogroups to the latest terminology, particularly on the detailed project pages, although the predicted ones still show R1b1a2 aka R-M269

adding the FamilyTree DNA result table as an alternate view on the Summary Results page (not linked to families as the custom table above it is)

This review also led to considering whether or not we might be able to pinpoint how long ago the Irish and the Southdean SINTON lines diverged.

With the rapidly growing knowledge of the overall Y-DNA tree of mankind some of the branches are becoming defined almost down to where papertrails may begin - well we wish!
Stephen (S-3) undertook the Y-Deep Clade test some time ago and his terminal SNP is currently defined as R-P312 (aka R1b1a2a1a1b), which is also likely to apply to his matches.

It would be good to also get one of the Irish representatives up to at least 67 markers and check to see, at the very least, if they are from the same branch of the Y-DNA R haplogroup treeSinton DNA Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15696044635608546117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642956184589928591.post-23204353021454061852013-01-29T14:10:00.000+13:002013-01-29T14:10:09.377+13:00Duns/Chirnside/HampsteadLove to hear from researchers/descendants of the following families:

James & Jean (TROTTER) SINTON of Duns, Berwickshire (1784-1797 at least),

Thomas and Elizabeth (CURRY) SINTON of Sunup, Lauder, Berwickshire (1782-1797 at least),

and the following London SINTON siblings born Scotland:

George Hay & Mary (JOHNSTON) SINTON - Hampstead nurserymen/seedsmen

William & Elizabeth Mary (MONTAGUE) SINTON - Hampstead gardener

Thomas & Agnes (WAIT)/Lily (WIGHT)/and possibly Janet (BLACKET) SINTON - carpenter of Chirnside (1810-1833ish), then Eltham (Kent) & St Pancras

Keep an eye on the DNA Project Patriarchs page as all of the above have had/are having significant updates to the original tree provided.
None are as yet represented in the SINTON Surname DNA Project - can YOU remedy that?Sinton DNA Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15696044635608546117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642956184589928591.post-51637675677927293712013-01-26T13:07:00.000+13:002013-01-26T13:07:22.280+13:00Tidy upRealized that one of our results wasn't showing on the Overall SINTON DNA results grid, and that a behind the scenes renumbering for ease of maintenance had not been completed.
Both now remedied, more of the associated charts converted to the newer interactive format whereby you can collapse / expand branches to get a better picture of those sections of interest to you.
A few broken links also mended, hopefully without creating more.

So, if you have bookmarked certain people of interest, you may need to recreate your bookmarked pages.

Summary Patriarchs page also updated to reflect the renumbering above.

Still looking for direct male line SINTONs to represent their trees - check out the Wanted! pages in particular, but any SINTON tree anywhere, whether shown on these pages or not is most welcome.Sinton DNA Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15696044635608546117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642956184589928591.post-24682562006091187892012-12-11T14:55:00.001+13:002012-12-11T14:55:37.786+13:00Edinburgh SINTONsA new outline pedigree has been added to the Patriarchs page - that of the mason James SINTON & Helen TELFER
FamilytreeDNA have announced their annual sale:

We would love to hear from any direct male line SINTON wishing to
explore his family history and do his bit for our understanding of the
connections between the various lines.

We would particularly love to hear from him if he belongs to any of the families listed in the Wanted! page, or any SINTON, or similar surnames, not listed anywhere as yet.
(Further information available on the WFN Summary Patriarchs page )

We prefer Y-DNA67
tests to explore closeness of relationships, but for initial exploration of matches, Y-DNA37 is a good
starting point.

A subsidy may be available for some lines.

Contact details to explore this option, or for any further information, available in the footer of most project pages.
Given the paper trail showed a match to Lineage 1a, the Jedburgh SINTONs of William & Isabella (SCOTT) this was a disappointment.
However, the next panel arrived, so I set to updating the database and web pages, creating a new "lineage" in the R1b1b2 haplogroup - and then realised that he was an exact match to just the line he was supposed to be.
FT DNA have been asked why the "no match" results, and LRF (S-6) has been included in Lineage 1a, as he should be.
Summary results, and supplementary pages updated to include him in his rightful place on the SINTON tree.Sinton DNA Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15696044635608546117noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642956184589928591.post-60642467087666934352010-12-31T14:22:00.007+13:002015-07-29T01:24:13.727+12:00FORDs?Possibly we're all FORDs!
A new member popped out of the woodwork today.
At this stage nothing is known about his ancestry, other than his great grandfather Philip H FORD was from Arkansas born Scotland, and that he is GD3 to Peter (S-1) at 67 markers, which distance is made up from two mutations on one marker (CDYb), and the other as he is on modal for Lineage 1 at marker 449.
99% chance of a shared ancestor within 16 generations!

Both the summary result and the supplementary pages result grids have been updated, the former belatedly also including Theo (S-7)'s results as a catchup.

Still a few hours left for the discount promotion if you are a direct male line SINTON interested in seeing if you match anyone (see previous post)Sinton DNA Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15696044635608546117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642956184589928591.post-6465048013114361432010-12-12T00:47:00.005+13:002015-09-08T12:32:13.791+12:0011th: A pattern emergesWith the full Y-DNA37 results now in for our latest recruit - Theo (S-7) we can see that the Irish contingent can be distinguished from their matching Southdean lineages by 576=20 and CDYb=39, as opposed to the modal values of 19 and 40 respectively.

As shown on Theo's page, our paper trails do appear to be beating the odds when compared against the theoretical Time to Most Recent Common Ancestor (TMRCA) percentages given by Family Tree DNA's scientific results without the paper trails.

The relevant supplementary pages have been updated (and a "like on facebook" button added to the footers - be the first!).

If you are direct male line SINTON and are thinking of joining in this voyage of discovery, now would be a good time.
- Andrew and John, sons of William and Isabella (Scott) SINTON
- John SINTON (married Margaret KAY, and believed to be a son of James & Janet (Oliver) SINTON of Southdean.
Representatives from either of the lines of Andrew and John would be great to help define William's dna fingerprint
And a representative from John's line should confirm his place on the Southdean treeSinton DNA Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15696044635608546117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642956184589928591.post-23627906010905248712008-12-12T16:57:00.002+13:002008-12-12T17:07:33.563+13:0012th: More results in for Southdean lineage 1The upgrade results to 37 markers for Stephen (S-3) are in, and have been included in the Results table.

The colour coding on the Results table has been changed to reflect that the "usual" result for marker 449 now looks as if it is 30, rather than the 31 that I had previously assumed when we had fewer tests to compare.Sinton DNA Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15696044635608546117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642956184589928591.post-28349143284818725862008-12-11T11:31:00.003+13:002012-02-02T14:19:42.376+13:00WFN Updates - Lineage 1aMade a few updates to the SINTON DNA Project pages, including:
- correcting the pedigree shown for patriarch William (I'd missed out son John, which connected one line up to the wrong son of William and Isabella).
- assigning William and Isabella to Lineage 1a

Also added William to the Wanted! list to reinforce that although we do indeed have a representative of William and Isabella (SCOTT) SINTON's line, it would be good to see where the discrepancies with the Southdean line crept in, before or after William.Sinton DNA Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15696044635608546117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642956184589928591.post-1524667252657054552008-12-11T01:25:00.005+13:002012-02-02T14:20:08.225+13:00Another match! Jedburgh to SouthdeanPreliminary results are just in (hot off the press) for the 4th kit, that of a descendant of the Jedburgh SINTONs, William and Isabella (SCOTT) SINTON, who married Hawick c 1804.

12/12 marker match with the Lineage 1 Southdean Sintons.
The 26-37 marker results are also available, and show a couple of markers different to the Southdean lineage 1; The 13-25 marker panel still to come.

Results page and the Roy's pages on the DNA Projects Portal updated but as yet, nothing else.

It would still be good to get a distant cousin of Roy's into the project to see whether the markers showing different to the Southdean ones are a pattern for the Jedburgh Sintons or not. Any takers? Remember that there are discounts until the end of December if you join via the project.Sinton DNA Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15696044635608546117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642956184589928591.post-54821721263228963652008-12-04T11:08:00.003+13:002008-12-04T11:21:27.981+13:004th: Irish updateThe Irish kit has been returned is awaiting batching, first set of results unlikely to be out until late Jan at earliest.

Bookmark this SINTON DNA page for the links to the SINTON DNA Project related pages
And book mark (or subscribe to) this blog so you can check it out every so often for status updates, and reports of changes.Sinton DNA Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15696044635608546117noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642956184589928591.post-91509530231674400792008-11-30T16:29:00.004+13:002008-11-30T16:40:05.989+13:0030th: Wanted! / test discountsWell I didn't check all the links in the Sinton Lineages section that well.
Several more fixed.
And fingers crossed, we seem to be no longer blocked as a potential spam blog.

Wanted! page has been updated to include the lineage of the Cairncross Sintons, another Southdean and Jedburgh family.

Any of you out there reading this?

You, and any other Sinton males who might be considering joining the project to help identify the assorted lineages may be interested to know that until the end of December FamilyTreeDNA are offering Christmas specials on new tests ordered, so if anyone is interested in joining in, now is a very good time to do so.
The discounts only apply if you order via the surname project, so make sure you use the join project link (don't worry, you get to read some things first by clicking on that link and aren't automatically committing yourself), on the Sinton project pages
For useful comparisons with other lineages, the minimum test recommended is 37 markers, but 67 would be preferred.
Should you be considering this, and are the first to represent a line, or belong to line where a confirming test is required, there may be a subsidy available.
